Maha Elsayed
My University Experience
As I was set
to start this new chapter in my life, I was overcome with a multitude of
contradictory feelings as I moved my bags with the help of my parents. As soon
as I came into my apartment, I was met with a warm embrace by my neighbours,
which calmed all of my anxieties and unanswered questions about my new home.
That year has
been a once-in-a-lifetime trip for me. I expected all of the freedom and
independence to have a bad impact on me and my maturity level, but it had the
opposite effect. I was forced to step outside of my comfort zone because I was
alone in an unfamiliar place. Not only did I have to learn to rely on people I
didn't know well, but I also had to learn the value of independence and making
my own decisions without the help of others. While this adaptation did not come
naturally to me at first, it did take some time and effort. On occasion, all I
wanted to do was return home and see my family and old friends. But I didn't
allow myself to do so. I recognized the value of independence and instead of
hiding and avoiding it, I forced myself to adjust to it. Wow, it made such a
difference and had such an impact on my life. And now after almost 3 years I am
already used to it and I am loving it also thanks to my new friends they helped
me to get used it and I am trying to appreciate and enjoy every moment, and
actually they passed so fast I can’t believe it’s been already 3 years so I am
trying to enjoy the time left here and make memories with my best friends.
